Capa in colour

Capa in colour

In 1938 Capa used colour film to cover the fires in Hankou after the Japanese air raids on 19 July 1938. Four of these images appeared in the 17 October issue of Life. When he crossed the Atlantic with an Allied convoy three years later, in 1941, Capa took Kodachrome films as well as his usual black and white rolls. Over the next two years he used colour intermittently, but in 1943 he abandoned it completely in favour of black and white. From 1947 onwards, he usually carried at least two cameras, one for black and white and another for colour, especially for his tourism reports in Holiday.
